Insider Look into Rode Houston with Top Producer Abby Jones

Top Producer Abby Jones Tells You Everything You Need to Know about Upcoming Rodeo

Rodeo Houston 2020 is here! Every Spring the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo puts on three full weeks of action packed fun with nonstop entertainment. With all that Rodeo Houston has to offer, navigating it can at times be tricky. That’s why we sat down with one of our top producers Abby Jones who is a seasoned Rodeo go-er, and asked her to give us all the ins and outs of this year’s Rodeo!

Q: What do we have to look forward to with the Rodeo this year?

A: Every year the Rodeo has livestock competitions, shopping, your classic fair attractions, rides, music, and so much more! This year is no exception, you can expect some of the biggest names in music like Chance the Rapper, Lizzo, Dirks Bentley, Chris Stapleton and more! Plus delicious fair food and barbeque, it really is like a giant carnival meets livestock competition, you don’t want to miss it.

Q: What are some insider tips and tricks we should know about?

A: If you’re taking young kids, it’s best to try and go early if you can, and on the weekdays if possible. It just gets so crowded in the evening, especially on the weekends, that running around with little ones can easily become hectic. Also, not everyone knows that in every center there are petting zoos and a birthing center on site where baby animals are born!

Q: Any do’s and don’ts to navigating the Rodeo?

A: Parking can be rough. If you’re able, I would suggest taking the Metro, they offer rides all over the city, as well as special Rodeo Park & Ride tickets available on their mobile app. There are also specific drop off places for rideshare transportation like Uber and Lyft.

Q: What’s your personal favorite part of Rodeo Houston?

A: Definitely the Wine Garden. It is a giant outdoor area that is filled with all different types of wine. There is also a wine competition at the Rodeo, and some of the winners have their wines featured there. I also love the calf scramble, where forty kids attempt to catch a calf in the arena, and each kid that catches one is awarded over $2,500 to put towards purchasing a market steer or heifer that they can raise for potential scholarship money. I also love the Mutton Bustin! Young kids try and hold on to a lamb and ride as far as they can. There is so much to do, it really is so much fun and a great time where the whole community comes together.

We hope that you get to experience some rodeo fun this year and that our tips help you maximize your fun!
