Nan Lists Iconic Art Historian David Brauer’s Home | 404 Archer Street

Carefully taken down to the studs, 404 Archer Street is a timeless treasure that has been thoughtfully reimagined. Located in the Houston Heights, the renovation of this property was done in a way that would maintain many original characteristics of the home whilst creating a space that lends itself to the needs of buyers today. The stunning full kitchen remodel offers soft close cabinetry, a gas range, a large pantry, and tons of storage space. The open floor plan and high ceilings also provide a welcoming and bright space to relax in.

This special property was previously called home by one of Houston’s most celebrated Art Historians, David Brauer, who has achieved global recognition within the art world.

David Brauer was born in Dundee, Scotland. As a young child Brauer was influenced by his teacher who inspired him to pursue his gift of art. Brauer was quoted as saying that this teacher was the reason he would later pursue a career in education, believing in the impact that teachers can have on the lives of their students.

After watching a NASA rocket launch on a trip to Cape Canaveral, he moved to Houston, Texas in 1975. Brauer was drawn to NASA and wanted to live close to the Johnson Space Center where he was able to create art based on the launches and absorb all the information he could about the space program. During his time in Houston, Brauer served as Head of the History of Art Department for the Glassell School, and lectured for University of Houston and Rice University.

David Brauer passed away in September of 2020 but left behind a legacy filled with history and art. After his passing it was announced that he had gifted Houston Community College Central thousands of books and pieces of art from his expansive collection. Throughout his life, Brauer’s passion was art and education, two gifts that will remain his lasting legacy.
