The annual Houston Egyptian Festival is an all-day festival that celebrates Egyptian history, culture, food, and sense of community. The festival offers a plethora of activities and events for adults and children of all ages. Some of the cultural engagements include the following:
- Live music and performances by various Arabic artists
- Folkloric and belly dance shows and lessons
- Camel rides
- Ancient Egyptian history lessons
- Kids crafts
- Henna painting and art
Much to your stomach’s delight, you will find classic Egyptian and Mediterranean foods such as pita wraps, kabobs, beef grape leaves, kushari, and more delicacies from Phoenicia Specialty Foods! They will also be serving famous desserts like baklava and coconut basbousa. If you ever wanted a taste of Egypt, this is place for your taste buds to explore.
Numerous vendors showed their appreciation for the event and can be found at the festival, offering merchandise like papyrus art, Egyptian and Turkish coffee and teas, backgammon, tabla, and other traditions that are inclined to the Egyptian culture. You can even take a piece of Egypt home with you!
