NO SPRING BREAK TRAVEL PLANS? NO PROBLEM!

As Houston schools start preparing for Spring Break, you may start to plan how you’re going to spend some extra time with your family. Houston may not have white sand beaches, cabanas and crystalline waters, but it’s important to remember that our city still has a lifestyle for everyone! So if you’ve got some time off this upcoming week and are looking for some attractions to visit with your family, take a look at our list below. Some of these may be familiar, but that doesn’t mean you should neglect them this season. You may wind up surprising yourself by finding a new favorite spot!

THE RINK: ROLLING AT DISCOVER GREEN

This March, you can dance beneath the Houston skyline by visiting the city’s first outdoor roller rink! Grab your family and friends, enjoy the cool spring weather and skate along to your favorite hits! Act fast! The rink will only be open until March 25th. Admission price includes skate rental, but you can choose to bring your own four-wheel or in-line skates.

XTREME SPRING BREAK AT THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF HOUSTON

America’s number one children’s museum is hosting the perfect interactive experience! Let loose at the kids’ After Dark DJ dance party, experience unbeatable thrills at the Xtreme BMX Block Party, outrun your friends at the Human Hamster Balls, unleash your athleticism during the American Ninja Warrior-inspired shows and get hilariously messy at the Shaving Cream Pie Fight! All events, all day for only $12!

    GALVESTON

Galveston may not have water as blue as the beaches in the Caribbean, but the city still serves as an effective way to explore new grounds without being far from home! You can pursue thrill attractions like Schlitterbahn, Pleasure Pier, or flyboarding over the ocean. You can explore the grounds at Moody Gardens and experience the rainforest pyramid, rope courses and ziplining, Dinosaurs in Motion or the 4D Special FX Theater. You can visit the 70-block historic downtown full of antique shops, cozy clothing boutiques and art galleries. You can chow down on same delicious seafood at The Black Pearl or a juicy burger at The Spot. Most importantly, you can pack a picnic and your sand sports equipment and cool off at any of Galveston’s many beach parks!

    BAYOU BEND COLLECTION AND GARDENS

In the heart of the historic River Oaks stands Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, the MFAH house museum for American decorative arts and paintings. Activities for Spring Break include self-guided garden tours, family art activities, nature influenced scavenger hunts and more! Children under 18 get in free every day during the break!

    DISCOVERY GREEN

Discovery Green is normally filled with all kinds of events for the entire family, but this Spring Break, you can experience a new variety of activities! Girlstart will host several educational and fun hands-on opportunities, such as designing your own robot arm, creating your own musical instrument, designing foam gliders, structuring balloon boats and engineering parachutes! There will also be foam fun, a DJ, several dance performances, storybook opera, a live ice carving and writers workshops!

    HOUSTON LIVESTOCK AND RODEO

Like we mentioned in our last blog, Spring Break time also means Rodeo time! So if you’re looking for some all day fun with friends and family, check out the man activities at the Houston Livestock and Rodeo! You’ve got carnival rides, the calf scramble, pig races, the Champion Wine Garden, fried Oreos, fried cheescake, fried Twinkies, FRIED EVERYTHING! From the 30,000 livestock entries, to the nightly concerts by your favorite music artists, the Houston Rodeo is a guaranteed good time!

What is your favorite Houston (or surrounding Houston) attraction to visit during your breaks? We’d love to hear from you!
