FRIDAY

Ice Cream Social and Pop Up Market – I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Cool off from the scorching Houston heat with ice cream, food, live music, and shopping at Chocolate Wasted Ice Cream Company’s ice cream social and market in the East End.

Cool Nights at the Houston Zoo – Thanks to TXU Energy, the Houston Zoo is staying open late, which means you can now enjoy the animals in the cooler evening weather. Celebrate the end of summer at the final Cool Nights of the season! Check out their special summer exhibit “Nature Connects: Art with LEGO Brick,” and participate in their LEGOlympics. Your kids can build, create, and race to the finish line while playing a variety of LEGO-themed games and activities. Even better, you can save $4 on regular admission when you arrive after 4 p.m.

SATURDAY

Southern Fried Chicken Fest at Levy Park – We mentioned this in our “Things to Do in Houston this August” blog, but we’re suggesting it once again because this is a delicious event you won’t want to miss! In a celebration for Houston’s number one consumed fried dish, the most talented chefs and culinary artists will come together to showcase their creative and flavorful fried chicken masterpieces! The event starts at 4 p.m., with general admission tickets going for $10. Proceeds from the festival will benefit Kiel Colon Cancer, a nonprofit organization founded to raise awareness and donate funds toward fighting colon cancer.

Pipilotti Rist: Pixel Forest and Worry Will Vanish at the Museum of Fine Arts – Come check out MFAH’s new interactive exhibit as a continuation of its immersive, grand-scale series! The show uses light and video based installations to take viewers into a cosmic journey through time and space. The installation is accompanied by Anders Guggisberg’s soundtrack, aiming to add to the dreamlike feeling of the exhibition. Admission is $18 for adults and free for children under 12.

SUNDAY

Pints and Puppies at 8th Wonder Brewery – Bring your four legged friends over to Pints and Puppies at 8th Wonder Brewery where a portion of the proceeds will go toward local charities supporting dog rescue. Act fast: early bird tickets are only $10!

Game of Thrones Viewing and Panel at Rec Room – Calling all GoT fans! This one’s for you. Don’t have HBO? Looking for other mega-fans you can commiserate with? Come out to Rec Room in Downtown Houston, and watch Game of Thrones on the big screen with great company in an awesome theater, featuring a full bar of beer and wine! Every week features a post-episode rotating panel of the biggest fans in Houston who are excited to discuss the backstory of A Song of Ice and Fire while answering questions, proposing theories, and helping you digest every crazy twist that occurred in the episode.
