    6 THINGS TO DO THIS FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND

    The Fourth of July might fall on a Tuesday this year, but there’s no reason why you can’t celebrate all weekend long, right? Whether you live in Katy, the Woodlands, or the Inner Loop, there are a lot of exciting ways to enjoy the weekend with friends and family! Check out the list below for information on the this weekend’s events, nearest firework displays, live music, and entertainment!

    JUNE 30TH

    Critical Mass Bike Ride

    It’s that time of the month! Kick your weekend off with a bike ride through Houston! Love it or hate it, you can’t deny that Critical Mass is a great way to hang out with friends while enjoying a pro-bike celebration. Meet ups happen on the last Friday of every month — rain or shine — at the Historical Market Square park in Downtown. It’s a generally slow-paced ride so both novices and experts alike are welcome! Don’t own a bike? No sweat! There are multiple B-Cycle Stations located in and around the park.

     

    JUNE 30TH – JULY 2ND

    Houston Astros vs. New York Yankees

    With the best record in the major league at 52-26, our Houston Astros are hot this year! Watch them this weekend as they take on the New York Yankees in a three-game series at Minute Maid Park! If you’re thinking of catching Friday’s game, be sure to celebrate Big and Bright Friday Nights at Minute Maid Park! Fans can head out to the ballpark early and enjoy the Budweiser Happy Hour, be a part of the brand new Friday night fan section — the ‘StroZone — and then cap off the night with a Fireworks show, just in time for the holiday weekend!

     

    JULY 1ST

    Katy Freedom Celebration

    A Fourth of July warmup! From 9am to 1pm, the Katy community hosts their annual Freedom Celebration with a fun-filled morning program, featuring activities hosted by the Katy Fire Department and the Katy Parks and Recreation Department. An evening fireworks and live music and will be held in the area near Typhoon Texas and Katy Mills Mall from 8pm to 11pm.

     

    JULY 4TH

    Freedom over Texas featuring Hunter Hayes

    One of the biggest parties in the city for Independence Day is being held in Eleanor Tinsely Park from 4 to 10 p.m. You won’t want to miss it! Houston’s signature patriotic event — CITGO Freedom Over Texas — celebrates 30 years of tradition with live music, great food, family activities, and an incredible firework show! For the first time in the event’s history, the celebration will kick off with a patriotic tribute by United States Air Force Band of the West, followed by music from five-time GRAMMY-nominated Hunter Hayes and multi-platinum selling DNCE!

    A Star Spangled Salute

    How about some sweet-sounding classical music to go along with your fireworks? If this sounds like something for you, get to the Miller Outdoor Theatre on the 4th, because the Houston Symphony will be performing some favorites, and there WILL. BE. CANNONS. The show begins at 8:30, but get there early. You can get free tickets for covered seats on a first-come, first-served basis at the Miller box office or sit on the hill without tickets!

    Red, Hot and Blue Festival and Fireworks Extravaganza

    Celebrate freedom in the Woodlands this weekend at Town Green Park and Waterway Square with vendor booths, delicious food, children’s activities and entertainment on multiple stages from 6 to 10 p.m. The event will also host one of the largest firework displays in the Greater Houston area with a 20 + minute firework show! Feeling hungry? Get your fill at the hot dog and watermelon eating contest, hosted by H-E-B!
