We’re creatures of habit. When it comes to food and drinks, we have our go-to places. Maybe it’s because we don’t see the point in fixing what isn’t broken, or maybe it’s because we’re flat out scared to try anything different. There’s no shame in that! However, when it comes to coffee, Houston’s bean industry is booming; there’s so much out to there to try! So if you’re in the Houston area and looking for a new place to relax, or maybe just looking to switch up your routine, feel free to check out some of the city’s staples listed below.
CATALINA COFFEE
Although their beans are primarily from Amaya, the company’s sister company, Catalina sources beans from around the world so that customers always have the tastiest blends. From the most flavor-forward roasts, seasonal loose leaf teas and fresh pastries delivered daily, you will quickly find a new favorite. While some may complain about their lack of wifi, in a relaxing environment like Catalina, it is the perfect place to unplug from a long work day and just enjoy the company of those around you!
ANTIDOTE COFFEE
This low-key establishment features beer, wine, pastries, sandwiches and coffee that you can enjoy in either an outdoor or indoor environment. Their thrift-store decor, comfy couches, funky tables and eclectic music, create an at-home vibe that you will absolutely love. They offer free wifi, plenty of outlets and ample seating, perfect for studying and working outside of the office. Antidote is known for its coffee drips and fancy brews, and if you need suggestions, try the famous Antidote (coffee with a shot of espresso) or the Cajeta Latte (a nutty drink made with goat’s milk caramel).
PAPER CO. CAFE
The only way to get into this cafĂ© is through a bright blue door behind Ecclesia Church, its parent organization. What is now known as one of Houston’s best, this cafe began as a philanthropic mission of providing one dollar meals to the homeless. Coffee is bought from independent farmers and roasted on-site, which makes tasty and fresh. The menu is varied and the food is always delicious. Generous seating, open spaces, natural lighting and a tranquil environment make Paper Co. the perfect space for studying or working, while the friendly baristas are always up for a chat.
SIPHON COFFEE
There is nothing like getting your coffee out of something that belongs in a mad scientist’s lab. Confused? Siphon baristas can help you out. The siphon is around contraption that uses halogen burners to put a unique kick into a delicious selection of beans. The experience causes the coffee to taste more similar to tea, but don’t worry; coffee fiends can still get a delicious cup of joe from some of their classic brews. This place is known to be busy, but that’s a good sign! It means people enjoy the coffee, the expansive menu and the atmosphere. Check out Siphon and enjoy an experience like nothing before.
