PEARLAND, Texas – Nan and Company Properties learned first hand that there is truly no better feeling in the world than to make a child's Christmas a little brighter.
When Nan and Company founder, Nancy Almodovar, decided to help the D12 Foundation to assist in giving underprivileged children and their families a brighter Christmas it was a no brainer. Through the efforts of Almodovar and her team they chartered 3 buses to transport the children from their home to the Super Target in Pearland, Texas and supplied close to 200 T-shirts for the children, their families and the volunteers who assisted to wear during the event.
"To see the faces of the children light up at not only getting to go on a holiday shopping spree but also at the fact that they were meeting one of their idols, Houston Rockets basketball star Dwight Howard, made my heart melt. It is one of the most fulfilling events that I have taken part in. I am so excited at the prospect of making this an annual event," says Almodovar.
"The D12 Foundation team operated like a well oiled machine. They were fantastic in the organization of the event as well as supplying each child and family with gift cards to use during the shopping spree. Dwight Howard's personal support for the cause made the event something truly special. To see such a large Houston icon take a personal interest in underprivileged children was magical."
"Sunny Side Houston community resident Deshaundra Gbadamosi appreciated the gesture saying, “It means everything for me and my kids to have someone help us out with Christmas shopping, and it’s just a great spirit. I love it.”
Rockets center Dwight Howard comes from humble beginnings and wants to make a difference for these kids. One family had recently sustained tragedy when their home was destroyed in a fire, and Nancy Almodovar of Nan and Company Propertiesoffered to provide the family temporary housing while Zientte Houston generously stepped in to help with furniture for the family.
