    It’s no secret that first impressions are everything. This especially applies to the real estate industry where you will spend a lot of your time networking and interacting with new people. Several things like forgetting to iron your shirt or failing to stay away from revealing clothing could cost you a potential client. But no need to worry, we are excited to share some helpful tips on how to look your best when hosting an open house or meeting with clients!

    Keep it Simple

    The first rule of thumb is to always keep it simple. When dealing with clients who only know you on a professional level, less is always more. You don’t want to distract your client with any gaudy jewelry or unprofessional footwear. Keep your nails manicured, your hair out your face and your makeup more on the natural side.

     

     

    Be Conservative

    As an agent you’re always on the go, right? Whether hosting open houses or giving tours, you always want the attention to be on what you’re saying and not on how you look. Clients are known to subconsciously judge the quality of an agent by their appearance, so keeping your outfit conservative and professional is the best way to go. Avoid tops that are transparent, very snug, have low necklines or remove attention from your face.     Think Comfortable

    If wearing a full suit makes you sweat profusely, don’t wear it. If wearing 6-inch heels makes you lean on anything that can hold your weight, don’t wear it. As a real estate agent, your goal is to make your interactions with clients about them and not about you. As human beings, it’s in our nature to sense when someone is uncomfortable, especially when handling business in person. Take some extra time to make sure your outfit is comfortable enough for any and every unforeseen circumstance. Choose clothing that isn’t restrictive and shoes that won’t keep you from moving quickly if need be.

    Match Your Environment

    Assessing your location, situation, and prospective clients are safe ways to ensure that you don’t stand out in the wrong way. Consider expressing your sense of style while also relating to your clients as close as possible in order to strengthen their trust in you and your ability to meet their needs.

    Update Your Closet

    Refrain from wearing anything torn, stained, or damaged. Your lucky shirt no longer gets you closings if it looks faded or worn out (even if it’s under a blazer). Making sure that you look alert, clean and well prepared is the key to making a great first impression. Also, don’t be afraid to switch out pieces that no longer serve their purpose.
